The Great Beyond

PROJECT NAME
The Great Beyond - Laverton Shire Council
PROJECT TYPE
Interpretive Exhibition / Museum

CLIENT BRIEF

The town of Laverton in remote central Western Australia was pursuing its dream of building a tourism drawcard – The Great Beyond Visitor’s Centre. The ‘Hall of Fame’ celebrates the many explorers who traversed the Laverton region from the mid- 19th to early 20th century.

CREATIVITY & QUALITY DESIGN

The team designed creative storytelling methods for each zone, combining 3D sculptures, rock walls, a theatrette feature with mannequins and painted scrims accompanied by a lighting and audio display. The design seamlessly suited the theme and provided the client with a highly interactive, immersive space.

A PROBLEM-SOLVING CHALLENGE

Remote projects present their own unique challenges, such as the absence of skilled IT or electronic technicians, if required. Realising this, the Project Manager, Joel Nebauer, ensured that all of the details had been thought through and problems solved prior to arrival onsite. This involved meticulous planning.

Focus Productions were responsible for the fabrication and installation of all audio visual presentations, push button interactives, electrical and electronic work, voice overs and oral histories, custom joinery, graphic design, printing, custom rock work, painting, graphics, theming, props, lighting and minor construction of new walls.
